Respite Care
By providing you and your caregiver with a brief pause, respite care supports both of you. It can assist in giving you and your caregiver the time and room to complete tasks on your own, or simply have a break.
Depending on your requirements, eligibility, and the resources offered in the area, you may be able to get respite care for a few hours, a few days, or longer. You can access it at home, in the neighbourhood, or a number of other options which may be available to you.
Respite care can be scheduled ahead of time. For example, if your caregiver has a trip or appointment planned. It is also offered in case of emergency, such as an unanticipated hospital stay for your caregiver.
EMERGENCY RESPITE
Situations where emergency respite care might be needed, include:
- death of a primary carer
- major or sudden illness of a primary carer
- an urgent situation that makes it difficult for your carer to look after you.
You may still have to provide some information when you call, to make sure the right type of care can be provided.
